aupair

Back in Germany

Gepostet am

This will be my last blog. I’m back in Germany. I had to stop working as an au pair. I got sick, and had to go back to Germany.
For sure this wasn’t what I wanted but it’s the best in the moment.
And I have to say, I already miss the states, especially my host family and fabulos friends I made there. It was a great experience, even so it didn’t happen like it was planned but maybe that’s what should be. I’ll try to make the best out of the situation and I’m pretty sure some day I will go back. There are so many reasons, so much love. I will be back!!

Happy Easter

Gepostet am Aktualisiert am

Last weekend I got the opportunity to celebrate Easter here in the states. Compared to Germany it’s just a little holiday, but it’s worth it.
On Saturday night me and my host family dyed the eggs. That was a great experience to do it with kids, to see how excited they are for the Easter bunny, too cute! 🙂

Sunday morning 7.30am: Svenja is absolutely tired, because she went to bed late last nights. Hostkids totally awake, and woke me up to go for the egg hunt in our house. 😀
It was fun. It took us more than an hour to find all the eggs and our easter baskets. Once the kids found their baskets, they didn’t care about the eggs anymore, but after a while they continued looking for eggs. The rest of the morning was spent with playing xbox, call the family back in Germany, got ready.
Around noon, we drove to my hostfamily’s friends‘ house. There we hada huge potluck lunch. Afterwards all the kids went on an egg hunt again, and we made a little easter hike.

That’s how I spent my Easter here in the states.

I’ll add few photos as well.

Thank you for reading 🙂

St. Patricks Parade, being sick, 1st day of spring?

Gepostet am Aktualisiert am

Hi!:)
I just figured out I haven’t written since a while, but there’s a reason. There’s nothing really interesting happened the last weeks.

Last weekend I had my last weekend class at the college. Now I’m finally done with my hours I need for the educational part of the au pair program.
The weekend was fun again. I met many new people, learned interesting things, I volunteered few times. It’s a great feeling to see how grateful people a we give them just a little help.

During the last week I didn’t work. I was sick in bed for five days. I didn’t do anything on those days besides sleeping, watching a little bit TV.

Yesterday I went to the St. Patrick’s Parade in South Boston. Before the parade I volunteered again in a 5k race and afterwards I met a friend and we saw the parade together. It was freezing cold outside but it was worth it. I got the chance to experience the patriotic lifestyle of the Americans and saw how proud they are for their country. I add some photos to give you an impression.

And today: 1st day of spring.
That’s how it’s supposed to be. But I wouldn’t be in New Englad if it’s snowing today 😀

News, News, News

Gepostet am Aktualisiert am

Hi! 🙂

I just wanna give you a short update.

No 1:  Passsed the first two snowdays.
Finally winter arrives here. On Friday and Monday the kids had their first snowdays. It was fun but I’m definitely not a snow fan at all. Although the nature looks very pretty, it’s still my less favorite season. Snow and I will never get friends. I will be more than happy when the winter and the snow are gone.

No 2: Final Match with the new family for my extension term
After a short time in the matching process I finally found my perfect family for the second year. They live in NJ. I will take care of three kids (4,6,13). The family is really nice and I have a great feeling with them. I really look forward to move there on 07/29

No 3: Vacation
On Monday I will go on vacation with my hostfamily. I won’t post for two weeks then, but afterwards 😉

Weekend trip! :)

Gepostet am

Actually I’m bored in the bus that’s why I make this post;)
I went back to where my adventure started. I was in NYC with one friend.
We had an awesome weekend. Although it was only for two days we saw all the „popular“ things there. We went through the whole central park two times, saw the times square, 9/11 memorial, Rockefeller center, Brooklyn Bridge. We took the Staten island ferry and saw the statue of liberty. I figured out I’m in love with NYC, can’t imagine to live there but will definitely come back soon!

I don’t wanna write so much (like always) so you will get some
impressions!

Already six months and few news

Gepostet am Aktualisiert am

Hi!:)

Today I celebrate six months in the states.
The time flies so fast, it’s unbelievable. I got the chance to live the american way of life, to meet so many people. I realized my time here is limited, I have to start travel around the east coast.

And I also talked with my host parents yesterday and I decided to extend for another 12 months. I will change the family, although I’m having an awesome year here. It’s just I would like to see a different part of the U.S. Today i finished my application form for the extension term and now I have to wait for two references and then I will start matching again. We’ll see if I find a new family and where. But I’m optimistic.

To let you know: We didn’t get the huge snowstorm here. It’s white outside but not that much at all.

Winter arrives

Gepostet am

Finally the winter arrived here.
Snow is everywhere, sun is shining. Looks like a winter wonderland.
Yesterday I had my LCC meeting for January. We went snow tubing. It was cold like crazy but we had so much fun there. I definitely will do it again pretty soon!:)

Today is my host kids birthday and we went rock climbing. I tried it for the first time and that was also fun but it’s really exhausting and I’m sure I’ll have a great sleep tonight and sore tomorrow, but it’s worthy.

What else is new?
I finally booked my trip to New York City. We’ll go there in two weeks. Can’t wait for it!:)

It’s the last day of the year!

Gepostet am

2015 – it was the most exciting year in my life so far.

I really don’t want to write to much, so I just show you few pictures which describe my year pretty good.

Jahresrückblick

I could spend a great vacation with my family in spring on Lanzarote.
I finished my apprenticeship in Germany.
I had to say Goodbye to all my beloved ones in Germany. I said goodbye to my friends, my family.
I’ve taken a plane to the other side of the world, to start a great experience.
I’ve met so man new people here in the States. Some of them became really good friends. I met the cutest and funniest kids ever!
Thank you to all those people who made this year so special!

Happy New Year to everyone!

Merry Christmas

Gepostet am Aktualisiert am

I would like to tell you a little bit about my Christmas.
First of all: It was awesome!! I spent a great time with my hostfamily and I’m really thankful I can call them my perfect hostfamily. I really love my host kids and my hostparents are also really great!
„Not every present has to be wrapped. Sometimes the best present for an au pair is finding the right hostfamily.“ That’s probably a quote which describes everything perfect.
I’m really thankful for being able to celebrate a great Christmas here with my hostfamily!

How were the Christmas Days?
I have to say, it was great! For sure it was different than in Germany but I love the american way of celebrating Christmas.
On Christmas Eve we had a delicious dinner. My hostfamily has the tradition to have cheese and chocolate fondue for dinner. We ate together and after dinner  we read a Christmas Story. It was so nice to spend the tie with the whole family.
I also talked with my Family back in Germany on Christmas Eve. It was great and felt like I’m somehow with them when they unwrapped their presents.
On Christmas morning around 7 all of the three Kids woke up their parents and me. We went donwstairs in our Pyjamas to unwrap the presents. It’s a great feeling that we don’t have to dress up before. We spent around 2 hours to unwrap everything It’s so much fun to see the joy in the children’s eyes with every present they unwrap. We spent most of the Christmas Day with playing with the new toys and eat yummi Food. In the afternoon my hostmum’s brother’s Family came to our house. That means 6 Kids on Christmas, gone is the quiet and peace for the next four days. But all the Kids have so much fun together.
I really appreciate that the whole family spends much time together. It’s my favorite part of Christmas.

4 months, Thangsgiving, Black Friday

Gepostet am Aktualisiert am

Hi Folks! 🙂
Today I hit my four months in the states. It’s crazy how fast the time went by.
It feels like I left Germany few days ago, but also like living here my whole life.
Yesterday we celrated Thanksgiving. My hostfamily was at my hostmum’s brother since Wednesday afternoon. That meant: Much freetime! It was great. Yesterday I drove to them to celebrate together, It’s crazy how many food is offered on Thanksgiving. It was so delicious. Definitely one of the best meals I ever had! Turkey, Pumpkin Pie, Vegetables, Desserts. I loved it! It was a really nice day I spent with my hostfamily and I realize more and more how happy I am with them!!

Today: BLACK FRIDAY!! That means Shopping!
I went to Boston with one friend, we were there for 7 hours and it was crazy. Some stores were so crowded. I had to wait at least 30 minutes in front of the Fitting rooms. But it was fun. Back Friday is a day, you have to enjoy when you’re here for a „short time“. I have to say I’m poud of myself. I only bought three things for me and some Christmas presents for my lovely ones back in Germany.

And some more great news: My parents and one of my sisters finally booked their flights to the U.S. to visit me. „Only“ seven more months until I see them again!! I can’t wait!
